Local wealth management firm packages 200 lunches to offer some relief to San Diego’s downtown homeless
SAN DIEGO--HoyleCohen, LLC’s Giving Back Program packaged 200 brown bag lunches and distributed them among the homeless in San Diego’s downtown community last Thursday, July 26. This is the second time this year that HoyleCohen has packaged lunches for San Diego’s homeless, the first time being April 12, 2012.
The entire HoyleCohen staff participated in what’s called “Sack Lunch Thursday.” Together, the firm prepared peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and bagged them along with bottled waters, oranges, granola bars, chips, and small chocolate bites. Most recently, the firm also made a subset of packages that included dog treats after having realized a large number of homeless men and women had pet companions also in need.
Mary Beth Storjohann, CFP®, CDFA, founder of the firm’s Giving Back Program shared, “The first time we did this, we immediately found out how little time is needed to make a big impact on someone’s day. Preparing the lunches takes an hour or so and handing them out takes less than ten minutes. What struck me most both times was how genuinely grateful and appreciative the homeless were for a simple lunch – for something most of us are lucky enough to take for granted.”
HoyleCohen Managing Director & CEO Mark Delfino added, “Hunger and homelessness is a real problem here in San Diego, and while we can’t fix the problem outright, we certainly know we can help. At the end of the day, we know that a little heart goes a long way and I can’t think of a single reason why we wouldn’t continue to volunteer our time and efforts to make someone else’s day a little brighter.”
The HoyleCohen Giving Back Program makes annual donations to various charities in San Diego throughout the year and participates in organized volunteer efforts.
